' Ngaundioe > volcano has Beyer actually ceased rt-6 eruptions, but after the big outburst last week it seems to be taking a rest, and is now fairly quiet. Earlier in the week, on Monday and Tuesday, there were eruptions of considerable magnitude, but since then there has been no really striking manifestation', of the volcanic energy. The rumours thai flames hid boon, issuing from fcbe crater, tho lurid glare being visible for miles around, are not' taken eeriouely. There never has been any sign of molten lava about the volcano during his . period of eruption, The crater is. throwing up dense, voktnes of. steam heavily charged with. volcanic dust winch gives the appearance of black emokoj but of fire there has' no external sign,' and no lava has been seen by those who have ascended to tho crater's edge.
