In its annual report, the Auckland Tramways Company furnishes a return of tlio number of passengers, etc., for the year which closed on December 31. The number of cars work'ing was., increased from 71 in 1907, to 87- last year, ' and the number of passengers earned increased from 22,474,537 in 1907, t0.26,14.4,820i,in' 1 1908. The average receipts per passenger, worked out at 1.47(1. in 1907, and 1.50(1. in 1908, while the averhgo expenditure per passenger, in 1907, was O.SSd., and ill 1908, 0.92(1., the proportion of expenses to receipts increasing from 60 per cent. in 1907, to 61 per cent-, in 190 S. .
