Mr. J. R. Stanscll, J.P., presented ■ tho prizes 'wonby members during the sea- ' son. Mr. J. Roach was tho winner of Mr. W. H. Gunning's trophy, and gold medal for the champion singles, and Mr. J, R. Esson was the recipient of tho trophy IWI. : ated by Mr. Gunning for tho best iiovico. Mrs. Knowles and Mr. G. N. Stephenson won tho euchro prizes; and Mrs. J. Cameron and Mr. A. Richards were- "at tho other end-' 1 . During tho evening Messrs. J. R. Stansell, W. Law, and A. Stansell contributed songs, and an enjoyable danco followod. GREYTOWN. A public mooting was hold at Groytown on Wednesday, when tho Mayor brought the question of borough and; lioubo lighting bofore the burgosses. He gave a general out- , lino of tho respective merits of elcctric'light <: and, coal gas, as illuininaflts, but favoured the latter. Mackay, and ,Prootor,.: presented its report to a meetingof . tho ratepayers, presided' over by Mr. O. Brandon.' The report was to tho effect that the committee had waited as a deputation on j tho Comity Council on several occasions, and ' > that as a result of its representations a sum of over £50 had been refunded by Messrs. Lynch Bros. The deputation" also rtportod " that it had mot with-considerable difficulty, ; in obtaining. the information it desired from tho County Council, and strong complaint was mado on this • account. Tho affairs, of' the .county , were'very freely discussed, especially, the last balance-sheet and a transaction relating to the sale of a horse, harness and dray, the property of tho County , .
