THE PRIME MINISTER AND THE NAVAL CONFERENCE.
Sir,—There appears to bo some uncertainty at present as to whether the Primo Minister will represent the Dominion at the forthcoming Naval Conferenco to.bo held in London in July next. Tho people of Now JZcaland no doubt appreciate tho h<shour conferred upon: their leading representative in being asked to attend, but would prefer to seo him remain' hero and attend to the business he is paid to perform.' . ',-.'•, iWo have the High Commissioner, with his largo staff of experts, in London, and surely ho could bo made acquainted with the mind, of the Government on this matter, aAld would undoubtedly represent, us worthily at this conference. There is absolutely no necessity for, tho Prime Minister to go to London and waste tho pooplo'B, money, wlion wo have our representatives'on the spot. •It seems evident that' Ministers have no intention of practising economy; judging by the way they travel about attending, banquets, etc.; and it is high time tke.peoplo of tho Dominion gavo them an intimation that thoy aro eleoted and paid to attend to business, ■to safeguard tho' interests of tho people, and : not constantly to wander around, both here and abroad, seeking honour and- glory for themselves at tho expense and to the neglect of tho'welfare of the people of New Zealand.—l 'ami- etc..■•.'. ■".'•v'•:'-;-' " c.v. ■■■ , May. 13.'..• ' ' .',;,'. ■' ' ■■
