INDUSTRIES WEEK.
EXHIBITION COMMENOEBTO-OAV. LARGE- VARIETY OF DISPLASS. Industries Week commences to-day. Bbc tho second occasion, local businoEe people are sotting asido portions of their window's and other parts of their premises for the purpose of making a special display.': of: Now Zealand-made goods, concerning which a surprising ignorance has been prevalent. Thanks, however, to last year'e exhibition, much of this'has been dispelled, and , it is very satisfactory for those who have tho wolfaro of tho Dominion's trade at heart, and for those who participate in tho manufacture of the goods in question, to know that it is' no uncommon thing for the native-born to ontor Wellington shops, inspect articles of local and' foreign manufacture, express their conviction of the nocessity for supporting local industries, uud act on. this conviction. It is held that thoso buyore are fully justified in tho course indicated, not only by the fact that the goods are locally made, but on account of their intrinsic valuo, which, in the majority of cases, is considered at least equal to tho importations. .;. ■; ■ i...,. Up to a few days ago , , the Wellington shopkeepers had not been, showing any extraordinary interest in the exhibition; but all fears on that score have proved groundless, for all day yesterday the office of'Mr.'H. F. Allen, secretary of the Industrial Association, was simply besieged by exhibitors coming in for cards, window bills, etc They seom to have fully awakened to tho importance of tho scheme, and to tho business opportunities placed before them. Mr.* Allen paid a visit yesterday to a number of shopkeepers who intend exhibiting their products and found them busily engaged in making preparations and clearing their windows in readiness . for ; tho goods with the device "Now Zealand Made." Hβ told a Dominion reporter that a good show is certain, and he anticipates that it will bo on quite as largo a scale as last year, Opinions wore divided, as to whether Industries Week last year paid those who participated, but the majority seemed to think it did,' and several shopkeepers told Mr. Allen that their, sales of Now Zealand-made goods had inoroasod considerably as a result of it. :■ ; :.■-. ...-■' SOME OF THE EXHIBITS. .
