Father Kcogh, who lias resigned the rectorship of St. Patrick's College'to tako charge of tho Hastings parish; will relinquish his collego duties at tho end of noxt month. . : ;. „ M . r - C i' ril 6 - Collins, son of Mr.. R. J. Collins, Secretary to the Treasury, who was recently transferred to Auckland from tho Audit Department hero, has been appointed Audit Inspector for the Auckland district. Mr., A. B. Wright, district road engineer at Auckland, has been appointed inspecting engineer of roads, with headquarters at Wellington. Mr. -Wright is expected to arrive to-night to take up his new duties. Wβ are informed, on the highest authority, that the statement published yesterday by our morning contemporary, to the effect that his Excellency the Governor is to leave the ■ Dominion for England at the 'end of February next, is quite incorrect. Mr. Alfred Hill, tho well-known musician, was reported to be doing well yosteiday. A meeting is to be held at the Dresden Rooms at 5.15 o'clock this' oveuing to make arrangements for tendering him a complimentary concert in th'e ! Town Hall. His Worship the Mayor (Dr. A. K. Newman) will occupy" the chair. It is especially requested that all ladies and gentlemen interested will attend this meeting. . < .-. • . At the weekly parade of tho Petone Garrison Artillery, ■ held at the fort at Ngahauranga last night, Lieutenant Ellis was unanimously elected captain of tho corps. About 60 men were present.: Lieut.-Colonol Campbell briefly congratulated the new captain on his promotion, and Capt. Ellis returned thanks to the company for the honour conferred on him, expressing his intention of doing all in his power to further the cfßcienoy and interests of his.new command. Tho following appointments of teachers were confirmed at a meeting of the Hawko's Bay Education Board yesterday (writes our Napier correspondent) :—Mr. Ernest Mayo, sole teacher, Papatawa; Miss Helen M.
