Strenuous precautions woro taken to keep the public ignorant of tho time and placo of tho ceremony, for the beauty and talent of tho bride mak~e her a universal and it is not comfortable to bo an.'American idol at •• such a time.. It is stated that four'dispensations were necessary to render tho ceremony binding in the eyes of the Catholic Church, of 'which tho gifted actress is a member. The first-was for the bridegroom's religion, the second for Lent, the third because the bride was not married in her own parish, tho fourth ■becauso the bridegroom had not resided long enough in tho parish. Miss ' Barrymoro is very well known in London, and a favourite in circles to which actresses do not usually penetrato. Sho was at one timo engaged to a popular Englishman, and. the story goe3 that she cabled tho news to her father in America.' "Delighted," ho cabled back. Later his daughter informed Mr. Barrymore that sho had broken off her engagement. ■ "Still . delighted," was his reply.
