ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FOUND DEAD. (BY TELEGUAni—ntESS ASSOCIATION.). Dunciliiv, April 13. A man named James Dawson was found dead in a stable at Berwick lust night. FATAL RACECOUKSE ACCIDENT (BY TELEGRAM—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, April 13. At the inquest on William O'Connoll, rider of Stronghold in the. Kildaro Hurdles on Monday, e-vidoncc was given by Edward Scoullar, rider of Snip in the saiuo race, to tho olFect that Stronghold failed to rise to tho last hurdlo, and fell in front of Snip, and rolled over deceased. Snip struck Stronghold, and also fell and roiled on deceased. Tho reason that Stronghold did not rise at the hurdle, was that he seemed to be tiring. Tho medical evidence was that deceased reached the hospital unconscious, and remained so till death at 5 a.m. to-day. Deceased's condition showed signs of cerebral hemorrhage, but it was doomed too extensive to permit of an operation. The postmortem examination disclosed extensive hemorrhage within and without the brain substance. A verdict of accidental. death was returned. At tho request of Q'C'onnell's sister, his body will bo sent to Foiklbg for interment there. HURT BY A RALE OF WOOL, 'A labourer named George Darling, a singlo man, 37 years of age, residing iii Hawkcstone Street, injured his back whilst working at tho Nfrahaurnnga Meat Works vesterclay morning. Darling was handling a bale of wool, when it fell on his back. Tho exact nature- of his injuries were not known "ast night, but he was progressing favourably. CORONER'S INQUIRY. A formal inquiry was held by Dr. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday morning into tho death, an hour after birth, of a promnturelyborn male infant at Miramar.
