AUCKLAND VOLUNTEERS PRAISED.
. CAMPS TOO SHORT. [BY TBLEGUAI'II—SI'ECIM. rnitlttW!'o>:nltNT I Auckland, April 13. The Easter manoeuvres being over, it is pleasant to noto that the chief officers concerned have to speak in high terms of praise regarding the Auckland volunteers who took part. ' Colonel Tuson, for instance, has expressed himself well pleased with the work of all, and particularly tha.fc of the signallers and engineers. Tho infantry had put in some hard marching over very bad roads and in wretched weather. Ho thought, however, that the value of tho camp might have been much greater had it extended over a longer period. A week's camp was the minimum time iu which thoy could got real'work out of tho volunteers, although- a fortnight would bo better. Ho would suggest a' week's encampment about Christmas. The manner of compiling and issuing tho orders showed a big improvement. "For"physique and willingness," ho added, "the men are excellent, and if they only had a little more training they would be first rate." "I consider," said Colonel "Wolfe, to a newspaper correspondent, speaking with regard to tho men, "that tho material is tho best in the world, and the mounted men are wonderful in tho work they can accomplish; but I certainly think these camps should bo longer, and I lmvo.no doubt that if these officers and men were given the opportunities of getting tho necessary field training wo should bo ablo to hold our own under ordinary circumstances."
