SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS CONVENTION.
The convention of Sunday School teachers just concluded at Pnlmerston North hns proved one of the best yet promoted by the Wellington Union. Tho first session, oil Good Friday afternoon, was attended by about one hundred delegates. Mr. It, B. Davis, president of the union, was in ttio chair, and, after a halfhour s devotional service, papers were read bv Messrs. Grocott nnd Thompson, who had visited the city and suburban schools during the past year. The delegates were entertained at ten by the Pnlmerston friends, nnd a question box discussed during ten. Rev. 1. Jolly, Ifov. F. M'Donald, Mrs. Ciilluni, Miss Ofsborn, and Messrs. Bennett, rillcv, Iloddor, lladdon, Grocott, Davis, Holdaworth, and Jones Answered many important quoshons on all phases of school management. A publio meeting was presided over by Mr r. B. Hodder, chairman of the Palmerston lNorth Sunday School Union, and addressee of welcome were given by Rev. I. Jolly, M.A. and Rev. F. M'Donald. Mr. W. Gray, M V Principal of Wellington Teachers' Training College, _ gavo an address on "The Sunday hchooli its plnco, orgnnisntion, and methods.' , JNcedless to say, the subject was treated in-a masterly style, and thoroughly enjoyed by a Crowded audience. On Saturday morning a model lesson was •given by Jlr. J. Vernoii, M.A., headmaster Of the Palmerston High School, and paper on How to Prepare a Sunday School Lesson," by Vlr. W. u ray. Both gentlemen gave much Roo< advice, and answered many questions put by the delegates. Mr. George Tiller gavo an exposition of liiiiok-lioard nnd sand-table work in the afternoon, showing how these can bo used to illustrate lessons for primary classes. Miss Craig, headmistress of Mount Cook Inflint School, navo a paper in the eveniug on The Art of Questioning," Teachers wore urged u) use questions in sue i a manner as to !ix the teaching given in tho minds of the scholars. On Sunday, liov. D. Hird, M.A., gave an ad dress ou "Snbhntli Observance," and in the evening Rev. J .Mly, M.A., dispensed the Communion.
