Tho board began tho year with a dr. balance of £5131 17s. At the end of the yoar the dr. balanco was £2818 13s. 2d. Taking into account the money assets and liabilities, including tho balance of the maintenance grant, tho balance nt the end of tiie year was or. £1527 16s. 4d. The principle has been adopted by the hoard of making no deduction of salary from a teacher who is absent from duty through illness, considering that it is at st'icli a timo that loss of salary would bo most severely felt.' ;'■''. ■' ■ '■■"; -■' .*'■ Three rinks of the Victoria ("Wellington)' Clulj paid the annual visit to tho Feilding Club on Friday, to play the two days' tournament. The weather was dull, but suitablo to bowls, and tho gre-on was in splendid order. The total scores for the morning for tho throe rinks were: Victoria 68, Feilding 40. In the afternoon, however, the local players made a better showing, and scored CO points to 54. The day's total gave tho Victorians tho lead by 122 to 100. Tho death occurred at her residence, Kimbolton Road, on Friday, of Mrs. Margaret M'Kenzie, relict, of Mr. T. U. M'Kenzie, at tho age of 82 years. Mrs M'Kenzio was tho daughter of the lato Mr. Duncan Fraser, of Pukehou, I'arawanui, and was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, in 1826. She came with her parents to Now Zealand in the ship Blenheim in -1840, landing at tho Hutt In 1842 she married Mr. T. U. Mackenzie and'resided in "Wellington till 1849. After living for somo timo at Porirua and *arakina; tho family took up their residence nt Toyntsiield," Lower.Rangitikei, where they hved till 1SI»7, when they came to Feilding. Mr. lU'K.onzic died here in May, 1904. The deceased lady went through all the experiences of tho early settlers. Of a family of 21 there are 7 sons and 7 daughters living Tho death is also reported of Mrs Bennett, wife of Mr. James Bennett, who established the lirst dairy factory in the Awalmri district. i
