SOCIALIST PARTY.

The half-yearly meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Socialist party was hold last night. The secretary, Mr. E. Hogg, reported that there had been a satisfactory increase in membership during the past quarter (his term of office), and that for Uid same period, there was a credit balance of .£3O. The following officers were elected:—Chairman, Mr. James Purchase; vice-chairman, Mr. J. F. Hursthouse; treasurer, Mr.. G. Bailey; secretary, Mr. E. Hogg. Various alterations of rules were made with a view of securing more elasticity in managing the affairs of the branch. During the winter months the organising secretary is to do his utmost in propaganda work, and in addressing open-air meetings. The annual conference of the party begins on Easter Monday at Wellington, in connection with which public meetings, social gatherings, etc., will be held.
