There was a very large entry of sheep at Addington yards to-day, particularly in tho ! fat and store pens, while the yarding of lambs showed a great reduction, compared with previous sales. Fat wethers showed a decline in price. Fat ewes brought prices equal to late rates. There was an improved demand for store sheep, on account of the favourable prospects as regards feed. The yarding of fat cattle was easier. The number of store sheep offered was below that of recent sales. The class was composed very largely of ewes of various ages and descriptions, including a few lines of two-tooths of exceptionally good quality. For the lat- ; ter, and others of a good class, the demand was good. Practically all lots were cleared at a small advance on late rates. Tho improved tone of tho market was principally due to tho late rains and the fact that tho feed prospects are more favourable than a week ago. Only a few lots of wothers came forward, and the demand was very restricted, consequently the sales made were at low prices compared with the ruling values. Ewes, average lines, made 9s. 6(1. to'lOs.i.Gil.; one or two lots in very forward condition making 12s. to 12s. 9d. Very few lambs were offered, and they sold at late rates. The yarding of fat lambs was very small compared with last week, 2835 being offered, against 5152. The quality was fairly good, at prices on a par with those obtained at the previous sale. In some cases the prices were slightly above the basis at which exporters are now doing bnsiness, the reason being that freezing orders had to bo filled. Several export buyers declined to operate, but the sale taken throughout was more animated than on Wednesday last. All the lambs penned were sold. None were secured by graziers. Freezing buyers took 2354, prices ranging from 10s. Gd. to 335. 5d.. a few extra quality making 13s. Gd. to 14s. Butchers purchased 481, from 10s. 9d. to 13s. 7d., extra making 14s.
