FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. Tho first meeting of the Management Committee of tho Wellington Rugby Union for 1909 was held last night. There were present:— Messrs. S. S. Brown (who was re-elected chairman for tho ensuing year), E. 0. Hales, W. J. Hardham, W. Perry, J. Sweeney, J. Burns, J. P. O'Sullivan, and W. G. Talbot (secretary). The Poneko and Oriental Clubs were given permission to play a match on. tho Athletic Park on Saturday. Permission was given the Victoria College Ladies' Hockey Club to play_ a match on tbo park on the mornings of April 12 and 13. Messrs. Sweeney and Perry were appointed to tho Referees' Appointment Board as representing tho union. , In accordance with tho usual practice, it was decided to pay the expenses of the Referees Association representative to tho annual conference. Tho Exchango Football Club was admitted to membership of the union. The chairman'was appointed to represent the union at a future moeting of sports bodies in connection with municipal representation. A number of applications for tho use of the park for training purposes once a week was referred to the Park Trustees. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs. Harding, Hales, and the secretary, was appointed to meet a committee from the Potone Borough Council, in reference to lettine the Petone recreation ground. Writing regarding injured players, the secretary of the Hospital Trustees (Mr. G. E. Burton) stated that the trustees were quite prepared to treat such players at tho usual charges, provided tho applicant was a proper subject, but they were unable to accept any definite offer of a fixed amount for the season. Tho Railway Club advised that, owing to the impossibility of obtaining a sufficient number of active members, it would' be unable to enter a team this season, and that it had been decided to disband. Permission was granted tho Petone Club to play a match with the boys from the WeraToit Industrial School on Easter Saturday. It was decided to inform tho Upper Hutt Club that the union could not accept its nomination unless a ground nearer town was secured. WELLINGTON FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION.! Tho Committee of Management of tho Wei-1 lington Football Association met last evening, there being present Messrs. B. L. Salmon (in tho chair), L. White, J. M. Oilier, W. Auld, J. Paton, H. Waters, and A. Williams. / The request of tho Wanganui Football Association to withdraw beyond tho Wellington boundaries, form a new district, and affiliate with the New Zealand Football Association, was agreed to, the boundaries being defined at Palmerston on the north, and Woodville on tho east. The Petone Club wrote stating that it proposed' to enter for the senior and junior first and second division league competitions; the ■ Bros.' Club, senior second, and junior first division matches; Ramblers' Club, senior first and second division, and junior second and third division teams; Brooklyn, junior first and second division. A letter wag received from the Eltham Association, asking that a Wellington .team be sent up for an Easter match.—Received. Permission was granted to tho Swifts Club to send a team to Picton and Blenheim, and the Y.M.C.A. Club a team to Wanganui, for Easter matches. Mr. A. D. Crawford wrote stating that he had no grounds available for use by the Football Association during tho coming season. Consideration was given to the draft rules for the conduct of the Brown Challenge Shield competition, and several suggested amendments thereto sent forward to the Council of the New Zealand Football Association' for review. Messrs. Salmon, Davidson, and Waters were appointed to act as Grounds and Championship Committee. It was deoided td appoint a Senior Selection Committee of three, instead of a sole selector, as was done last season. Messrs. H. Waters, J. Paton, and A. W. Williams were elected to act for tho season. Messrs. A. Newson, R. Dalziel, and B. L. Salmon worq re-elected to tho Senior Second Division Selection Committee. Messrs. A. G. Barnett, H. Waters, and 8,. L. Salmon were appointed to act as the Postponement Committee.The Boys' Sub-Committee was constituted, with Messrs. B. L. Salmon, A. G. Barnett, and H. N. Holmes as members.' ' It was decided that all league matches would be commenced on Saturday, April 2i. Mr. A. G. Barnett was thanked by resolution for his past services as a member of the Management Committee, he being now ineligible, under the rules, for re-election. Mr. Godbei was also accorded a vote of thanks for ser- . vices rendered. WANDERERS' CLUB. [ The general meeting of the Wanderers' Foot--1 ball Club was held last evening, when 40 mem--1 bers were present. The report and balancei sheet, as presented, were adopted. The gold [ medal presented by Mr. Mann to tho playei - in tho senior first division, who rendered the i best service to his side, was won by G. Irvine, : Messrs. Mann and Crouch promised medals foi , the ensuing 6eason, one for the first division _ team and one for the second division team.
