The Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages supplies the following particulars of registrations recorded during the past month and (luarter. These are as follow:— Month. 1909. 1908. Births ■ 171 102 Deaths 94 81 Marriages S2 8G Quarter. Births ... 490 520 Deaths 250 190 Marriages 261 2GS The figures show that there is a slight falling off in births and marriages. Tho marked increase in the death statistics is accounted for by tho Tenguin disaster, in which over 70 people lost their lives.
