A fire broke out at Gladstone Road to. night before 7 o'clock in tho millinery establishment of "Wellington House," occupied by Mrs. Loohs. Tho- large stock was entirely ruined, and the building gutted. Tho.adjoiiiing shop, occupied by Mr Andrews, bootmaker, was saved by the brigade. The stock, however, was considerably damaged by water. This building, containing two shops, was owned by Mr. James Mawhimiov, and was insured (with fittings) for jElOOO'in tho Guardian office- Mrs. Loohs's stock was insured' for £11Q0 in the' State office and foi £750 in the South British. Mr, Andrews'? stock was oovcrcd by a risk of £500 in tltf London and- Lancashire office. THE FIRE IN TARANAKI PLACE. , The insurances in yesterday morning's firs wore as under as near as can bo ascertained: —Brown's boardinghouso, 39 Taranaki Place, owned by Mi 1 . T. W. Hislop, and occupied by Mr. William Grove, was completely destroyed; building was insured for £500 with the Commercial Union and £500 with tho Liverpool, London, and Globe. The cbiitouts wore insured with tho New Zealand Insurance Company for £500. The premises 37 Taranaki Place, owned by Mr. John Rigg, and occupied John Rigg and Co., merchants, were seriously damaged. Tho building was insured with the Commercial Union for £1250, and with the Standard for £2-50. Following are tho insurances on tho contents:—Phoenix £1500, Royal Exchange £500, Atlas £1000, Norwich Union £1000,' fixtures, Commercial Union, £150. The stocli was valued at £6000. SMALL FIRE AT KILBIRNIE. The Fire Brigado turned out nt 2.55 p.m. yostorday to 82 Duncan Terrace, Kilbirm'e, where a small fire occurred in a throeroomed dwelling occupied by Mr. John G. Frofi. Mr Fran was cleaning a suit of clothes with benzine, when tho clothes caught fire and destroyed the clothes. Nc other damage was done. HOUSE BURNT AT HATAITAI. . An unoccupied six-roomed residence sihr ated in Arawa Road, liataitai, was totally destroyed by fire last evening. Tho brigade received tho alarm at 9.23 p.m., but tho houso was completely ablaze by tho time the motor reached the place. Nothing is known as to how tho firo originated. Tho dwelling, which stands by itself, was owned by Sir, Breen, of Plunkot Street, Kolburnei
