WHAT MILK CONSUMERS PAY. 'A CONTRAST BY DR. FRENGLEY. Dr. Frengley, in a report to the Wellington City Council on. municipal milk, urges tho reasonableness of purchasing milk on a butter-fat basis, and draws the following contrast between the prices paid by the dairy factories and that paid by tho milkdrinkers of Wellington:— Standard Milk. 3.25 per cent, butter-fat: 12 per cent, total solids. Fivopenco for a gallon of standard milk -is equivalent to Is. 3d. per lb. of the contained butter-fat. ' Price per lb. of Price per gallon contained butter-fit. of standard milk, s. d. a. For butter-mak- 10* 3} approx. m H ' ■ 3J approx. For choose- 10 4 approx. making 11 4J approx. For household 3 0 approx. 3 qt. or 1/- gal. consumption 4 0 approx. 2 pt. or 1/4 gal! as milk. ' Note3.—Something must bo added fot value of returned skimmed milk. Value of whey is approximately nil. 'Admittedly when buying per gallon neither skimming nor watering directly affects the citizen's pocket, but only reduces the food value.
