LAWN TENNIS.

« A meeting of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association, held on Thursday evening, was attended by Messrs. R. St. J. Bcero (chair), J. W. M. Dart, P. A. Lewis, A. Fair, J. F. O'Lcary, J. 11. Hogben, C. E. Weir (treasurer), and T. H. Jones (secretary). The Marton Club wroto asking for the definition of "a trophy," as a winner at the club's recent tournament had purchased a pair of boots on his trophy-order. It was decided that tho order could not be honoured, as tho articles referred to could hardly bo termed "a memorial to celebrate a victory," which is tho dictionary definition of the word "trophy." Messrs. Fair and O'Leary were appointed delegates to attend tho conference of sports' bodies at Armifs rooms, to consider the consolidation of the athletic vote at tho forthcoming municipal elections. Tho balance-sheet of the recent WellingtonCanterbury match showed a debit of ,£l2 3s. 2d. This brought forth some comment from members, and eventually a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Beerc, 'Weir, and Swauston, was set up to deal with the whole question of interprovincial fixtures. ' In connection with tho Wellington Provincial Championship Tournament at Easter, it was resolved, on tho motion of Mr. Weir, to hold the whole meeting (senior and junior events) on tho Thomdon courts, and that an effort be made to secure tho Brougham Hill courts in case of an overflow. Tho following officials were appointed for the tournament:—Referee, Mr. 11. M. Gore; Classification Committee, Messrs. Beerc, O'Leary, and tho secretary; Management Committee, Messrs. n -K' ,£ c ? sin S- H - A - Robertson, F. A. Lewis. 0. L. Weir; press steward, Mr. A. H. Kimbell.
