The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held last night, when there were present: l'ho Mayor (the Hen. T. W. Hislop), and Councillors Luke, Smith, Cohen, Ballinger, Hales, Shirtcliffo, Fisher, Biss, Flotcher, Carmichael, Ilindmarsk, M'Laren, Morrah, Murdoch, and Godber. The Bath's and City Reserves Committee recommended that Mr. A. J. Moore bo informed that there was 110 position available for him as a .special constablo at the "Zoo'' at present; and that provision be made in next year's estimates for providing for the laying of Wfier-, with drinking taps and cups, and the erection of public latrines and dress-ing-shed accommodation at the KelbUrne Park.—Adopted. The By-laws and Street Lighting Committee recommended that the plan of subdivision Of the ■ Onepu Estate, South Kilbirnie, be approved, provided the company reserve certain sections from sale at present. The committee reported that they' had given further consideration to tho proposed subdivision of tho estate of tho late Isaac Plimmer, in Woolcombe Street, and had to recommend that si l ,mo be approved, and that the right-of-way bo authorised 011 the conditions imposed by the city engineer. The committee desired to point out that under the Wellington City Streets Act 1905, dwellinghouses must not be, erected within 20ft. from the centre line of tho_ right-of-way, and the sections are such;as would 1 allow the necessary air space being provided, as required by the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908.—Adopted. The Finance and Property Committee recommended that the request of the Onslow Borough Counoil that tllo Kaiwarra household refuse should be burned at the destroyer be acceded toj on conditions suggested by the oity engineer. That the petitioners for the _ construction of a road off ArO Street be informed that owing'to the Government's inability to. contribute towards its cost the proposal could not bo proceeded with. That the charge for all water used b,v tho Boys' Institute in exce3s of 100,000 gallons be 6d. per 1000 gallons. That the application of Mr. L. Pollock for a permanent barrow stand on Lainbton Quay be not granted. That the salaries of the undermentioned officers bo as follow from January 1, 1909:— H. L. Godber, rate collector, £285 ;-H. V. Cave-rhill, senior Cashier, £145.—Adopted.
