CONCILIATION.
THE AUCKLAND RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES. (UV TELEGKArU—I'KESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, March 24. An adjourned meeting of tho Conciliation I Council was held to-day to deal with the dispute between tho Restaurant Employees' Union and the employers. Mr. Long, who I represented the union previously and stated he would not submit the union ca.-.e, was present, but ivhon Mr. Giles .asked if anyone appeared for the applicant, Mr. Lonj; made no lcspense. Mr. Giles announced that, there being no appearance for tho applicants, the Court could, uurlnr Scctioii 37 of the Act of last session, proceej as if both pirties were present Mr. Knox, representing the respondents, said the demands imdo bv the apt licnnls were impossible. Tho union was demanding the Cliristehurch award in its entirety, with tho compulsory clause of the Auckland award. Mr. Knox proceeded to -.'all ovi-dorir-e. Later, Mr. Giles said that as there could bo nothing to put before tho council in the form of n recoil! 'Herniation, he would forward n report to the Arbitration Court that, owing largely fo the iip.uasciiableness of the. employees' union, voiced by Air. Long, in refusing to give evidence, no decision had been arrived at. Replying to a rj'.iestion, Mr. Long adu.itte.l that out of about MO persons employed in hotels and restaurants, only 25 wero members of tho bniun.
