Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report ns follows:—At our Wanganui salo yesterday HOO sheep and 170 cattle were yarded. There was brisk competition, and nearly a total clearance under tho hammer. Quotations:.f.m. ewes, Gs. 9d. to 7s. 4d.; medium lambs, ss. 7d.; cull lambs, 35.; two and a halt-year bush steers, £'i Cs.; eighteen-months, bush steers, 395.; medium eighteen-months steers, £2 3s. fid.; forward cows, £3 Cs.; springing heifers, £3 ■45.; good storo cows, JC3; cows and calves, «£2 7s. Gd.; forward heifers, £2 18s.; eighteenmonths heifers, 375. Gd.; mixed yearlings, 235. fid.; stags, 255.
Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held their fortnightly stock salo at their Masterton yards yesterday, when they had a largo yarding of sheep and a satisfactory entry of cattle; 5000 sheep camo under tho hammer, and comprised in this number were two really good lines of breeding ewesone of 1300 and of 1900 Aohanga-brccl ewes, which sold at satisfactory prices considering the drop in the fat market. Dry sheep were not so eagerly sought after, but, as vendors seemed to have made up their minds to accept low prices at tho end of tho sale,, tho auctioneers succeeded in practically quitting the whole entry. Quotations:— Sheep: Good four-year-old Romney and Lincoln cross ewes, up to 13s. Id.; lighter-woolled four-year-old ewes, up to lis. 7d.; two and four-tooth ewes, to 13s. 7d.; four-tooth to f.f.m. ewes (small), 10s. 3d. to 12s. Id.; f.m. ewes (medium), Bs. 6d. to 9s. 7d; two-tooth wethers, 9s. to 10s.; two and four-tooth wethers, 10s. 2d. to Us.; two-tooth ewes and wethers (mixed), 10s. 3d. Not. a great number of lambs camo forward, but what were submitted were eagerly competed for, bontlidown cross lambs selling up to Bs. M. Oulls mad© 4s. Id. There was good competition for rams, Lincolns bringing 11 to 2' a guineas; twotooth Eomneys, H to 21- guineas; feouthdowns S guineas. Cattle: Grown bullocks wero not in much demand, but young cattle, especially those of good colours, readily found buyers. Quotations —Eighteen-month steers, £- 55.; two and a half-year steers, £3 ss.
Reporting on their Johnsormllc sale Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., state as follows :-A fair entry of both bullocks and sheep was well up to requirements. Beet made «0i per hundred lb. Best bullocks, .£8 ss. to JCB7S. 6(1. j plain, £' to. £1 7s. fid.; good wethers, 13s. to 13s. 3d.; prime ewes, 125.; good quality, Us. id. to Us. 7d.; medium quality woolly lambs, 10s. lid.; extra quality shorn lambs, 13s. Id. to 13s. 9d.
BTJRNSIDE STOCK MARKET. [BY TELEGEA.PH—PBBSS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, March 24. At -the Addington live stock market to-day thero were again largo entries of stock and a good attendance. Storo sheep sold at about last week's rates. Fat lambs were easier in consequence of exporters having reduced then limits of price by id. por lb. Prime beef showed no change, but inferior and cow beef were down about Is. per 1001b. Pigs of all classes were cusicr. There, was an entry of between 400 and. 500 store sheep, mostly ewes of all classes and a"es, with a few wethers and a small proportion of good lambs. Ewes were in fair demand, and showed practically no change- in values. Good sorts of young and sound-mouth owes again sold well, while aged and inferior sorts were neglected, or only saleablo at very low prices. Pour and six-tooth cv.es sold up to 10s. Gd., and poorer lines of sound-mouth owes 10s. 6d. to 13s. Gd. Wethers were dull of sale, and prices were again low. Pairly forward lines made 10s. Gd. to lis. Gd. A few lines of lambs on offer sold at rates which showed a downward tendency. Tho entry of fat lambs totalled 5152, as against about 8000 last week, and on the wholo tho yarding.was of good quality. Export buyers again reduced their limits id. per lb., and they are now 4Jd., up to 3Glb.; 4-Jd., from 361b. to 421b. j 3gd., for over 421b.; and 4d. for second quality. Though there was some outside speculation, prices generally wero easier than last week. Thero wero 4GII taken for freezing at lis. to 13s. 4d., a few extra to 14s. 4d. Butchers took 319 at lis. to 13s. 9d., extra to 145.; and 222 were passed in.
There was a smaller entry of fat sheep than usual, tho supply being barely sufficient for butchers' requirements. Wethers sold at a further advance upon last week's rates of from Gd. to Is. per head. Ewes showed littlo or no improvement. Priino wethers nlade 15s. to lGs. 9d.; extra, to 17s. 10d.; others, 12s. 2d. to 14s. Gd.; prime ewes,' lis. Gd. to 13s. 7d.; extra, to 16s; and others, 7s. Bd. to 10s. Gd.
There were 3G9 head of fat cattle- penned, a good proportion being of a useful class. There was a larger number of cows than last week, and they met with dull sale. Prices camo down about Is. per 1001b. Prime beef sold at about last week's rates. Steers made £7 2s. 6d. to £W 155.; heifers, £i ss. to £$ 17s. fid.; and cows, £3 15s. to £6 15s.—equal to 225. for prime, 18s. Gd. to 2fls. for medium, and 15s. to 18s. for cow and inferior per 1001b. There was a small yarding of store cattle, mostly old cows, and thero was n dull sale. Fifteen and 18-inonths made 40s. to 455.; twoyear steers, £2 10s. to £3; two-year hoifors, £2, 55.; threo-year steers, £H to ,£0 55.; dry cows, 15s. to .£3 10s. Dairy cows were in good demand at £3 to .£lO 15s. Pigs of all classes were entered in fair numbers. There was rather a dull sale, especially for porkers, and prices generally showed a decline. Choppers sold up to .£3 10s.; largo baconers, 525. Gd. to 575. Gd.; and lighter, 425. Gd. to 60s.—equal to 4tl. to 4Jd. per lb.; porkers, 335. to 40s.—equal to sd. per lb.; largo stores, 30s. to 375.; medium, 235. to 285.; and weauers, 10s. Gd. to 1&. Gd. ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. Gd. to 17s. Gd., extra 19s. Gd., modium 13s. Gd. to Ms. od., inferior lis. to 125.; best ewes, 13s. to 15s. Gd. Lambs: 1416 yarded. A large yarding of good quality, prices easing by Is. per head. Quotations:—Best lambs, lis. Gd. to 12s. Gd.; extra, lis. 9d., medium 10s. to 10s. 9d., inferior 7s. 6d. to Bs. Gd. Cattle: 150 yarded. A medium yarding. Prices wero firmer on account of th'o small entry. Quotations:—Best bullocks £8 10s. to .£9 10s., extra ,£lO 55., medium .£7 ss. to £7 155., inferior £G to .EG 10s.; best cows and heifers £b 10s. to .EG 10s., medium £1 10s. to ,£5, inferior .fii to 'J!3 15s. Pigs: SO yarded, a fair supply. Prices wero equal to last week's. Suckers and slips were poorly supplied, and there was good competition, last week's prices being maintained.
