A lotter from the Hutt Valley TramwayBoard inquired whether tho council would lease a section of land in Eandwick Road for 20 years (renewable), and, if so, at what price. Tho matter was deferred for discussion in committee.
In response to a suggestion from the City Council it was resolved that tho Hutt Council would favourably consider tho fencing of the unfouced parts of Wainui Hill Road, and tho City Council, which was a largo user of the road .would contribute a substantial part of tho cost.
The Hutt River Board notified that the council's tender for .£75 per annum for the right to take shingle from No. i beach had been accepted. Contractors will bo charged 3d. per yard for material, and residents for private uso obtain tho material gratis. It was resolved to spend .£lO in widening King's Road at a spot in front of the Education Reserve.
A further letter from Messrs. Skerrett and ! Wylie, with reference to Mrs. DuS's land at | Riverbank Street, stated that it was now suggested that the land should bo vested in tho i Borough Council for tho purpose of a road. . Mr. Buddie, Mrs. Duif's solicitor, had asked if the council would allow her tho use of the | land on her signing nn undertaking to move back her fence when called upon to do so. Meanwhile an extension of time for beginning proceedings had been arranged. The council agreed to assent'to the proposal made. In a letter enclosing £2 10s. lOd. for repairs to Wainui Bridge, Mr. J. J. K. Powell, of Wellington, complained that tho total of .£10; which in different sums ho had been called upon to pay, was exorbitant, as at that' rate it would cost ,£IOOO to-floor the whole bridgo, which would bo absurd. Tho engineer was instructed to report. • Communications were read relating to tho proposed increased contribution of £Gisi 17s. 3d. from Petone toward the work connected with the new pipe bridges over the Hutt and Waiwetu rivers, this extra expenditure beiug solely payable by and for tho benefit of Petone (or, perhaps, Wellington city). As ono of the contributing parties to the main scheme, the consent of Hutt Borough Council was required. The consent of the City Council had been granted. Tho meeting resolved to sanction tho proposal. Melling Bridgo traffic by-laws were before tho council as drawn up by the solicitors. They provide that no vehicle, which, with driver, horse, and load weighs over two tons, shall uso the bridge; that no cattle, sheep, or horses shall pass over it, except horses carrying ridor3 or attached to vehicles; that no vehicle shall follow another across tho bridge at a shorter distance than 100 ft.; and that no vehicle shall cross faster than four miles an hour. It was resolved to allo.w tho Potono Citizens' Band to give a Sund>j- public performance on the Recreation Ground within a month. Tho No. 2 committee recominendad that the lamp on tho Main Street, near Downer Street, bo moved to tho corner of that street, and that tho lamp in Parliament Street bo moved to tho northern corner of Laery Street. This was agreed to. Concerning motor cycles on bicycle tracks, the No. 2 committee recommended that Clause 5 of tho Miscellaneous By-law, 1905, bo repoaled.and u new clanso passed in similar terms, but omitting tho words motor bicycle or motor tricycle, and that a special meeting for that purpose bo called for 7.25 p.m. on the dato of tho next ordinary meeting.
