FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. Tn the eighteenth annual report of the Wellington Football Association the committee stated that the past season must be considered an exceptionally gratifying one. . A record number of teams . took part in the various competitions and it must oe conceded that improved style of play was shown in all the grades. The following table siows the various entries and winners-:—Senior' League First Division, 8 entries, won by Diamonds: W.F.A. Charity Cup, 8 entries, won by Diamonds; Senior League Second Division, 13 entries, won by St. John's A; W.F.A. Second Division Challenge Ctnj, 12 entries, won by Swifts;' Junior League-First Division, 4 entries, won by Kaiwarra; Henderson Memorial Cup, i entries, won by Kaiwarra; Junior League Second Division,. Ji entries, won by Y.11.C.A. A; W.F.A. Junior Challenge Cup, 5 entries, won by Y.JI.C.A. A; Junior League Third Division, 20 entries, won by Marist School A. The Senior League First Division contest at times produced soma good games, and keen interest was maintained rintil the finish, Diamonds ultimately winning by two points. As compared with the previous season the matches, especially thos4 played in the. city, were well attended by spectators. The W.F.A. Charity Cnp final was played between Diamonds and Ramblers, mid", after n good, game, the former team won by 3 goals to 2. Very good form was shown in the Senior League Second Division and W.F.A. Second Division Challenge- Cup contests! Although ■St.' Johns A were successful in the former, Swifts managed to win the latter. Both tennis showed ■ good form, and their successes were well deserved. The Junior League First Division and Memorial Cup contests were. both won easily by Kaiwarra. The Junior ■ League Second Division competition was won by Y.M.C.A. A, and this team was also successful in annexing the W.F.A. Junior Challenge 1 Cup. The team thoroughly deserved the success which attended its efforts. A feature of the Junior League Third Division competition was the number of teams competing. The competition was won by Maris School A, which showed splendid form. A remarkable fact was that the team had only one goal (a penalty) scored against it throughout the season, and did not have a lost or drawn game. The committee suggest to tho incoming committee the advisability of making this competition aft A and B one. Tho thanks of the -association are also due lo Mr. G. Adair for his presentation of a cup for competition. No accident of a serious nature occurred during the season, which is a matter for congratulation. Tho committee ha„<s pleasure in stating that n team was again entered for the Brown Shield competition, which was won by tho associations representatives, who defeated Tnrnnaki by 4 goals to nil, nml Ota.<?o in the final by i goals to 2. The association's representatives were also successful in beating Masterton by 2 gouls to nil. A visit is owing to Canterbury, and it is desired that this should be. fulfilled. Tho season was wonnd | up by the Senior Second Division representatives being beaten by Wanganui by 3 goals to 1. Several applications for matches from country clubs came to hand during the latter part of tile season, but, owin/» to various circumstances, matches could. not be arranged in every instance. Ihe incoming management committee is_ recommended to make such arrangements with, say, the Senior League First and Second Divisions as will enable all applications for games, being complied with. Ke?ret was expressed at the departure of Mr. C>. F. Brodie to New Plymouth. His loss as selector of senior representative teams of the. W.F.A., and also as a keen supporter of the gaii*c, will be severely felt. The thanks of the association were accorded the Y.JI.C.A. for the use of a room, the Referees' Association, and ■the officers.
