Tho Columbia Private Hotel, which has been recently erected in Lower Cuba Street, iu tho locality of tho Town Hall, was built to the order of Messrs. Dwau Bros., tho owners, of this city. Tho building, which was erected to the plans and under the supervision of llr. J. M. .Dawson, architect, is fivo stories high iii front, with a garden roof, and six torics high at tho back. There are closo oil 95 well-lighted bedrooms in all, as well as spacious smoking, drawing, rending, and Indies' rooms. The diningroom accommodates 100 guests, is situated on the ground floor, and is entered through a spacious loungo hall. Tho kitchen, which is on the ton floor lo obviato tho smell of cooking about the building, is connected with tlieserverv next to tho diningroom by a (wo-cago servin'e lift. There are numerous bathrooms and convonicnees throughout the building. A special feature is the hot-water system, which, twenty minutes after lighting the fires in the morning gives a plentiful supply of boiling water to all tho baths, sinks, etc., in the building. \|] tho floors aro connected with each other and with the office on the ground floor by a system of teleplionettes.' Fire alarms and hydrants aro situated throughout tho building. All the floors and garden roof are reached by a fast electric elevator. Tho Columbia Hotel lias been leased by Mrs. Keppler, of Christ clnirch. and was opened early in January, since which lime it has been continually orowded with guests
