WELLINGTON v. HOROWHENUA. Tho match between a team arranged by Mr. i. Ji. Junes (secretary of tho association) and a combination from tiie clubs in tho Ilorowhenua district took place at Otaki yesterday. Owing to heavy rain falling, no play was possible in tho morning, but things put on a much better appearance by the afternoon, and the full number of sets as previously decided upon was got oft. The Wellington team consisted of Messrs. C. E. Weir (Victoria College), T. L. Ward (Wellington), W. Shcppard (Wellington), F. A. Lewis (Newtown), I\ Clarke (Wellington), T. H. The match resulted in a win for the city team by twelve sets to three, but the country team was by no means outclassed, and in tho majority of tho events very even games were tho order of the day. The three wins credited to tho Horowhenua representatives were secured by E. P. and W. M. Siincox (second double), A. V. Winchester, and P. S. Simcox (third double), and Misses Grant and Stuckey (first ladies' double). Altogether the outing was a most enjoyable one, several amusing diversions cropping up to vary the monotony of the train journeys and the interval before actual play commenced., L. W. Hawkins (Petone), who was to have accompanied the team, was an absentee, being down with an attack of influenza, which caused him to miss the express. .
