POLICE LAUNCH.
[si tiligeipi:.—srEcui. cnnnrsroNnKNT.l Auckland, March 17. The secretary to the Auckland Anniversary Regatta Committeo recently wrote to tho Minister for Justico asking that a police launch should be provided at Auckland. The reason for this request was the presence near tho flagship on regatta day of a fishing boat with a crow who used obicctionablo language within the hearing of tho peoplo on board the flagship. A reply was received from tho Minister to tho effect that tho provision of a launch would be considered as soon as accommodation was provided for mooring purposes. At present tho police had authority to hire a launch when necessary, so that the mere fact, of not possessing one should not prevent necessary jjatrolling and inquiries. At present tho Minister'.regretted that he was unablo to comply with the request. The correspondence was placed before tho Harbour Board yesterday, and referred to tho board's committee, .the harbourmaster to report on the question of suitablo moorings.
