RAIL FARES TO AUCKLAND.

-— : —♦ ■ A PERPLEXED MAN HITS OTJT. (Bγ teleobaph—sricnr, correspondent.) ■ : :'.,.' March 16. A peculiarity in tho Railway Timetable is pointed out by a perplexed correspondent of'an Auckland papor. Whilst the distances arid fares between each station from Auckland; to Wellington are clearly shown in a way that'he who runs, or uses trains, may read,- tho same principle has not been adopted •in the construction of the timetable, .from Wellington to Auckland. The fares"jfrom Wellington to Marton, and* from Marton ■ to Auckland, are given separately, thus . forming two distinct sections. The' totals :of the two sets of fares, viz., from Wellington to Marton, and from Marton to Auckland, according to tbo distance scale on which fares are based, arc slightly more than the through fares from Wellington to Auckland, and thus the schedule does not disclose the fares between the two cities.' A footnote is appended, stating that tho fares between the centres are given on another page, but this is apt to be overlooked by passengers not versed in the , intricacies of railway timetables. The fact that there is no very distinct typographical division between the WellingtonMarton, and the Marton-Auckland schedules as printed, is also apt to mislead the traveller.
