ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
EARLY RETURN OF LIEUTENANT SHACKLETON EXPECTED. ; (BT TSLEGttAl'll—rilEflS ASSOCIATION,) Christohuroh, March 13. Mr. J. J. Kinscy, New Zealand ropresentativo of tho British Antarctic expedition, states that tlio Nimrod, with Lieutenant Sliackleton and members of tho exploring party, may return to New Zealand at any time now, although she is not actually duo until tho last week of this'month. Tho members of tho "Farthest South" party probably returned to their winter quarters at Capo Hoyds in Macmurdo Sound in time to depart in tho Ninirod not later than February Jo. Tho schemo adopted was that the Nimrod, after taking tho explorers 011 board and getting out of tho pack ice,, should undcrtako scientific investigation in the southern seas. If conditions for work of that nature are not favourable it will bo abandoned; and in that caso tho vessel will probably come to' its headquarters in New Zealand without delay. Lieutenant-Shackle-ton has thirteen men with him in the Antarctic.
