IMPORTED GAME.
Auckland, March 12. In reporting upon tho subject of imported game,- tho Council of Auckland Acclimatisation Society stated at its annual meeting to-night that tho introduction of partridges, Virginian quail, and green plover had liot had the success hoped for. Tho council regretted tlint tho introduction of the Australian stubblo quail, which was tho one game bird as to the suitability of which they felt complete confidence, had been prohibited by ths Government, acting probably under an entirely mistaken view of tho character and habits of tho bird. The president (Mr. E. W. Payton) observed in regard to the prohibition of tho importation of Australian stubblo quail tha't tho last cqnforenco of the Acclimatisation Society unanimously decided in favour of their importation, and suggested that they should approach the Government with a view to getting it to reconsider its decision. There was still hopes that they would bo able to import it.
