HOCKEY.
In the annual report of the Thorndon Hockey Club, the secretary (Mr. A. G. Williams) refers to the club's promotion to senior grade last year. Being their first year, nothing could be expected of it, but in the second round they had one win (by default). The thirds proved superior to anything in the competition, and went through without a loss. They are to be heartily congratulated, and it is hoped that this year's team will be equal to the task of defending the cup. A special vote of thanks is due Jlr. J. D. M'lntyre for his untiring efforts in coaching the team. During the year the club lost a prominent member in Mr. A. W Clouston, who was transferred to Auckland. In spite of the fact that only two teams were playing, and that money had to be spent in getting grounds in order, the balancesheet is satisfactory.
