RUGBY FOOTBALL.
ORIENTAL CLUB. The. annual report of the Oriental Football Club contains the following inter alia:— The committee is unable to congratulate members 011 a very successful season. This is mainly due to (lie poor attendance of members at the gymnasium. Also tho keenness of the younger players was killed by the referees appointed in the lower grades. The senior teiira shared with Pctone tho honour of being rimneivup for the senior championship. The record of the various teani9 is as .follows:—Senior fifteei—played 11, won 7, lost 3, drawn 1, points for 74, points against, 60; junior fifteen—played 10, won .1, lost 6, drawn 1, points for 57, points against 80; third fifteen—played 12, won a, lost 8, drawn 1. points for 83, points against 140; fourth fifteen— played 11, won 5, lost 5, drawn 1, points for (15, points against 48. ... The committee regrets to report tlio death o{ Mr. A. 11. Baskerville, who was a prominent member of the club's senior team for a number of years. The club has been unfortunate in losing, through accident, tho services of Mr. 11. D. Thomson and l'\ Sievers, two of its most brilliant inembjrs. lu representative matches the club was well represented, Messrs. Roberts and Thoinsan were selected and played for New Zealand against the British team, and they also ployed for their province in interprovincial matches. Other members who represented tho province were Messrs. 11, M'Leod, N. A. Veroie, M. Motheson, and T. Ilighet in the senior, Messrs. W. M'Keown and 1?. Player in the junior, and Messrs. Kelly, Shultz, Cording, Digby, .and Watson in the ' Wednesday. The club membership is 130—mostly financial—and the flnanci.il position is very satisfactory, the credit balance, being .CIS lis. 4cL In place of the annual smoke concert, a successful dance was held in aid of gymnasium funds. Tho dance was organised by lady friends of members, and to them tho best thanks of the club are due. Tho club desires to place 011 record its thanks to its president and vice-presidents for their services and many kindly acts in tho. past. The thanks, of the club aro also duo to Mr. Andrew' Wylic for a donation of ,£1 Is. to -club funds, and to Mr. W. Hornig for granting the club the uso of a i'oom for committee meetings.
