SWIFTS CLUB MEETING,

The Swifts Amateur Swimming Club got oft the' Second distance—loo yards—for ■ tho C. Smith Cup at To Aro Baths yesterday evening. Tho race was swum in two heats, the first of which was won by F. Delaney, after a close contest with H. Jenkinson. Tho second heat fell to G. Patterson, with C. Moore second. Freyberg, tho scratch man, swam a fine' race, and did tho distance* in a fraction over 66 seconds, but could not finish in a place. The final was a credit to the bandicapper, four men finishing almost at the same moment. Crawford led to within a few yards of home, when H. Jenkinson, Patterson, and Delaney caught him. The result was a great raco to tho finishing ]ine, but Patterson was going too strong for the opposition, and won by a few inches, H. Jenkinson, Delaney, and Crawford touching at practically the samo moment. The detailed results are: —, First heat: F. Delaney, 22sec., 1; H. Jenkinson, 19sec, 2; G. P. Crawford, 24sec., 3. The Thorndou Baths will bo the scene of the Thorndon Swimming Club's eleventh annual carnival this afternoon, aud, record ontrios having been received, a fine afternoon's sport shonld reward spectators. R. Hoaly and B. Itonayno, who were so successful at tho New Zealand championship meeting at Timaru, will bo amongst the competitors, and B. C. Freyberg and Fred Roberts, both of whom aro at the'top of their form just now, will also bo competing. , A' ladies' race finds a place on tho programme ,and a number of interesting sido attractions will ho provided.
