FIFTEEN-MILE RACE.
SHRUBB BEATS DORANDO. (BT TELEGRAPH —TRESS ASSOCIATION —COrYRIGHT.) New York, February 26. A. Shrubb, tho English runner, easily beat Dorando, the Italian, in a fifteen-mile raco at Buffalo. •The result of the above contest does not como as a surpriso. Dorando, who was the hero of tho Olympic Marathon, is a Marathon distance runner, whilst Shrubb,/ who did so well as an amateur, performs bestf over shorter distances. Among other honours held' by' the English runner are the world records for 2000 yds., 2, 3, i, 8, and 10 miles. Whilst he was on a visit to New. Zealand in 1905 he reduced tho Australasian amateur record for one mile to 4min. 22sec. at Auckland. The trophy in connection with the Olympic Marathon went to Hayes, an' American, because, Dorando received assistance, but in November last the Italian turned the'tables 011 Hayes. Some weeks ago Shrubb met Longboat, the Canadian Indian, in a Marathon race, but was beaten. The amateur record for 15 miles was established by F. Appleby, who traversed the distance at Homo in July, 1902, in lhr. Umin. 52sec. The professional record for the distance—viz., lhr. 26min. 59Jsec.—is held by C. Price, who obtained the'honour in America in May, 1881.
