THE LATE CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA.
Sir,—lf the Now Zealand Rowing Association desire to kill amateur rowing, they should hold another "championship" at Meteor, and th'eir aim will be attained.' One has pnly to look at the times in which the races were rowed,' and it will be dearly manifest that. the current must, have been raoing down at about four knots, consequently the crew lucky enough to get the centre of the rivor ftt the start-—or even afterwards— i held an unfair advantage over its competitor near the bank.\Then the, starting—save the mark,: —was a very-sad exhibition —vide Waikato papers—-especially ■in the Sculls, where at , [east thrco competitors were broadside', on to the stream .when , the flag fell. . Again, why no gun to start the' races? ■ May, I also, ask why did the association allow a certain Soulier, to compete' after they .had been notified that he was a defaulter of another club? Is, this improving' the status "of amateurs? I notioe" the association's, representative. - re-, ported that all in. corineotion with ; the" 1909 amateur championship was "Al." 'Well. >U ■ X can gay. is I should like,, to know where ho was when the. races were, rowed.—l am, eto '' . UATIt PT.AV
