TRIAL OF A RUSSIAN GOVERNOR. (bi TELEOBArn—rauss association—copiuionr.) London, February 8. Baron Fredericks, formerly Governor of Nijni-Novgorod, was tried before the Senate and dismissed from the Government service and fined 10,000 roubles, or a year's imprisonment, for negligence and corruption in connection with tho Gourko-Lidwall grain scandals in 1907.

'he. advanced:M. Lidwall ,£SO,OOO.' On September 29 another .£IOO,OOO /was paid inlo M. Lidwall'a account, although tie latter had not furnished a single pood. Tho contract was concluded without proper reference tV'the Departmental 'Committee, ■: and practicaiiV granted M. Lidwall a monopoly. , '
