THE HASTINGS RAM FAIR.
It was noticeable at the Hastings Ram Fair (writes our travelling representative), that there -was a bigger, demand for Ronmej Marsh sheep .and blaik-facep, i.e , mutton sheep, than there were for Lmcolns. v A prominent Wairarapa stock auctioneer who attended the sale contended that the reason ■ of this state of things was the condition of long-wools on the London market. Farmers, he said, were embarking on the fat lamb trade, and consequently their inclinations were in favour of Romney Marsh and Down sheep. The Romney was a woolly sheep, Jbut its lambs fattened quicker than those of the Lincoln. Regarding the sale itself, tho authority stated that good ehecp brought good prices, but for bad sheep, and there were any number of them, there was no bidding. Other breeders admitted that prices showed a fall vrhen compared with those of last year, but, as a set-off, were agreed that last j ear's prices,were false values.
