The party left tho Masonio Hotel in the morning, and, passing through Port Ahuriri and Pctane, motored on to tho Esk River, where Mr. Brown pointed out tho urgent publio need of a bndgo, ' Tho ladies of the party wcro taken for a ploasant spin around the Petano Valley, while the gentlemen proceeded by special coach on to the Tangcio wash-out. Tho Prime Minister inswoted tho 6ceno of tho proposed work,, and Mr. Brown explained what was necessary to obviate tho present danger. Sir Joseph took a keen intorcet in the country passed through, and showed an evident desire to'become acquainted with the needs of tho district. On returning to the Esk ford, the party set out for West' Shore, where they were,most hospitably received by the Missos Brown at their father's summer residence. On leaving Mr. Brown's residence, the' Ministerial party returned to the Masonic Hotel, and lunched, Sir Joseph Ward expressing himself as extremely'pleased with his trip., In tho afternoon Mr. Lrown again took the Prime Minister and paity in 'charge, and a'visit was paid to Pukctapu, where the leading points of interest were visited. This evening tho Prime Minister motored to Hastings, where ho was tho guest of tho Hawke's Bay Boxing Association at contests held under thoir auspices.
