ON THE METALIC CIRCUIT.
IMPROVED TELEPHONES. "Hello!" shouts theman at the telephone, and, if tha day is windy, he sometimes shouts more than once aud more than the simple unqualified "hello!". That is if he is not on the metallic circuit, but if ho is it is only on rare occasions that he experiences trouble such as is caused .by the crossing of wires or other interferences with sound, due to induction set up by currents running on parallel wires. And most of the Wellington subscribers to the Exchange aro in this hapyy position! now. . Out of a total of 3012 subscribers, excluding bureaux, 2350 save their temper and time through the advantages of the metallic circuit. JBy the end of the year/so it is expected, all will be on the covered circuit. The work, in a good many of tho suburban districts, such as and Karon, has been completed, and there now remain Wellington Terrace, Majoribanks Street, Oriental' Bay arid that locality, Brooklyn, Taranaki and Tory Streets. Dunedin was before Wellington in having the system completely installed,-while the-work of installation is in progress in Auckland and Christchurcli.
