One ; six-roomed and two houses, .together with tho.i furniture and effects, were totally destroyed. Mr. D. .Hynson, a tramway, . employee^,. in whose hbliso the fire originated, retired about 10. p.m., ; pouring water over ; -a wood 'fire' in the dining-room .before 'he. wont to bed. At 12.35, Mrs. Hynson gave an alarm of fire, and on opening tho bedroom door flames Were seen'going down'tho passage from tho dining-room; ;; Mr.-'-Hynson liad iust, time to got his wife and child out through ono.of tho windows as the flames', fanned; by the heavy gald. spread, vapidly. The second .house to catch lire was a five-roomed dwelling, owned by Mrs. j. Moraiij of' Roxburgh Street, and occupied by Mr.'Robt: Gii'yer, tramway'elerk. Tho flames then spread to a five-rOomed house owned and; occupied by Mr. Frank! Haigh, - grocer. Mr. Haigh had an insurance of £350 on'tho building, hut nothing on the furniture, dndlost-everything, Mr; Gliyer had "no insurance on his flirhituro,;. and Mr: Hynsori's furnitui'o was insured for £100 iii the State office.' Tho!, house in which the fire, started was owned by Mr. Waiter Westwood, and was insured for £350 in the State office. . Tho wall of a house owned by Mr. J. Hill was severely damaged. .
