A middle-aged woman named Mary Joyce! alias Buckley, alias Jones, pleaded not guilty to a charge of importuning on Jervois Quay* , After bearing the evidence, Chief Detective M 'Grath informed the Court that accused .had. 21 previous convictions against her, for offenqes. which included assault and robbery, theft, vagrancy, and drunkenness. A sen- . tence.'of one month's imprisonment with labour was imposed.--THEFT OF CLOTHING. Frank White, alias Fred. Wilson, aliai ' Whiteside, was charged with stealing a dresi» : basket containing a quantity-of-clothing and , a sailor's discharge, of. a total - valuo, of £1 10s.,ithe property of Ernest. Sinclair. Chief Detective M'Grath, after tho accused ■ had 'pleaded -guilty, explained , that - ; White - came out of gaol ou October ,24/ and went • to the To-.Ajo Hotel and, claimed Sinolair'a- ~ basket,' which he afterwards sold_to a dealer for 4s. The,accused had a long list of, previp ous .convictions /againstvhim;, vHis: Worshiz; imposed a' sentence. of;■ three months' impK i sonment..' ; ; vV'j" Sl'iOTHER CASES. : Thomas Easton, charged with insobriety, ; was convicted and fined 10s., with the option : ■ of 48 hours' imprisonment; and Marion < Stringer, similarly charged, ■. was convicted . and discharged.
