WELLINGTON CENTRE'S TOURNAMENT-
PRINCE, THE WINNER. Once moro the bowling fraternity gathered,in force at the' Wellington Club's profty green last .evening,: to witness the'final game of: the Wellington: Centre's tournament, between teams ■skipped by, Prince (Newtown) and Brackenridge (Victoria), The heavy'; rain of Wednesday had completely altered the character of the green, which was &a " gripp/'!. as the-veriest beginner could have wished, anil the bowls took a deal ,'of pnsh'to gct 'up to the J jack.- It affected the Victoria' team "most, and -on the whole team'played disappointingly, if one may take •their : torn in : the' tournament as' a standard. For Brakenridge, Jlatoh was a good lead, but Mack (2) and Bary (3) were right off tho spot, making .the,veteran skip's task even morfaifßonlt. than , his opponents made it. On its ,per« form'arice right throngh the tournament fe-nrwill disagree that it -was-the-, best. ' team. that entered, ■ and its." win last evening was.'..quit* expected.: Sexton, as lead; 'was not so-deadlj' 1 as in tho semi-final games, but /P6llook (2) played a magnificent game,, and his accuracy; evon excelled that of Wylie, who was never fai affhy. Prince'was as steady as- a rock throughout, and, on the. whole, played a much superior game to Brackenridge. He eventually won by 32—14. The card was as .follow'!:—; Head. Brackenridge. Prince, 1 ... Grundy, president of the' Wellington CluW expressed l the . pleasure which the tournament had given all interested in it. It had given the maximum pleasure with a minimum of expense, and he must congratulate the. Wellington Centre and Us good friend, Mr.-Churchward (seo.retary)' on the manner : in: which the meeting had been conducted. (Applause;), " Called upon to ' speak, Mr. .I'. L. ' Churchward (who certainly demonstrated.to all how a' tournament; should : be; run) .'said>.that he was ■pleased, that "others were pleased. It had: been nis aim to give, pleasure to all concerned,' and;'judging from the expressions of, opinion that he -had heard,'.: he liad succeeded. • He thought that the, centre had come to live, and thai this to.nr'nameht- wouldvhot 'be the last under .its auspices. .Every year; it 'was intended to hold. a tournament, and . lie hoped that it wouldal. .ways.be as,successful ab this one had been.
