PARAPARAUMU NOTES.

.Tho Wellington City Rifles made their annual visit to Paraparaumu to shoot off a friendly match with the local club last, week; Paraparumu suffered defeat at the hands of their comrades in arms, but the local marksmen hope to reverse, matters when tho return match occurs at Trentham next month. Some excitement now, exists in shooting circles as to who will bo the , winners ot the Field Shield, which is to bo competed for amongst the rifle clubs in the Otaki- electorate. . The contest is to take place this month at the butts, Palmorston North. „ Tho weather of late has been close and. muggy, with occasional slight showers, but nothing seems to damp the ardour of the numerous visitors who .revel in picnic parties at the beach or at the well-kept Government Game Farm. . , Our pretty little Anglican Church : has just' been completely finished by the addition of a beautiful Sicilian marble font—the generous. f>ift; of Mrs.. Cruickshanks. The' Christmas carols were a great success, doubtless owing to the unflagging- efforts of tho vicar, Rev. E. J. Jones. Miss Grace Wootten,.. Mr. : .G. Jenkinson, and Mr.. P. AVootten were in town to-day. Mr. and Mrs. S.. Carter have left hereon a short.visit to Christchurch. : ; Mr. and Mrs. .Monro entertained a:large house party at Pomona duriiig the Christmas week. ....
