The team chosen to represent the Masterton Rifle Volunteers in the physical drill and bayonet fighting exercises at the forthcoming military tournament at Palmerston North ia as follows:—Corporals Winter, Prentice, Harding, and Cole; Lance-Corporals Holmes and Braggins, and Privates TV Mun'n, and Williams: emergencies, Privates Hornblow and C. Munn. The team will bo in charge of Colour-Sergeant Morton. The old ago pensioner named -Edward Johnson, who was taken to. the hospital Jast Saturday suffering from poisoning through eating was match-heads, was on. Saturday brought before-Mr. W. P. James, S.M;, in a' oharge of attempted suicide." The' old man, who appeared very feeble and. scarcely spoke above a whisper, said he wished he'had been successful in his efforts to take his life, but, in answer to the Magistrate,. ho declared he would not attempt to do so again'..
