Miss, Borlase's Younger Pupils. When'tho younger members of- Miss. Borlase's dancing, classes- gave their annual pretty exhibition of fancy dancing at Sydney Street Schoolroom on Saturday night "Dominica"; was present, but by some, misadventure the report of. the performance .did not find its way into "yesterday's- Dominion. There is no other sort of class, that- can break up in such a charming arid aesthetic ■way as a children's dancing class, . it was no wonder tho stago was crowded with the parents, elder sisters, , and. friejids of tho young dancers, a most appreciative' audience. The' grand march with which fthe evening opened was very gay: and .pretty to watch. . Only the girls took part, and over their white frocks they- : wore little zouave jackets of -scarlet trimmed with blue, the. colours of France, to matoh . the-.little French flags, each ■of them' carried..in..her hand. Then followed many fancy dances by pupils, young and' very ■ young. ;" This fancy dancing :is Miss Barbara Putnam's special care, and, does great-credit ,to . her-training. A military dance, done by five girls, four of them in scarlet uniforms, and their leader, a little white-frocked French vivandiere, was, much - admired, and..so was. a cachuca.'very igracefully, danced by'four elder girls' with castenets, and the oughly enjoyed the dancing of the tiniest tots, who prent. through their step's .with a solemnity- it was pretty to watclj. • -.- Stye always fails down when she tries, to .curtsey, said a spectator,-watching one of the tiniest with gr<»at interest, and. thosg .near, by held their, breath as tho curtsey approached, but on • this important- occasion the. usua y dimcult feat was accomplished -successfully, with never a'.lurch. Tho men-folk, with their sombre garb, usually spoil the-look of a ball-room,, but .Miss Borlase's boy pupils .had a picturesque charm of their own, wi»th belts of dark blue in their white uniforms: Miss. Coates,'who presented, the prizes,: made a pleasant little',.speech to. the children, and little Betty Hislop,with ..a -pretty-'..curtsey,, presented to her a -bouquet of lffac, with •streamers of ; purple.. . After the.prize : giying and more dances the children enjoyed, a dainty supper. Two ' very_ little children who received prizes were Misses Betty_ Hislop and Vera,. Lissington. In 'the junior division the prizewinners were Misses Beryl Earle, Mariorie King, Rosalind Atkinson, and Minnie Blitler, and in. the senior division Misses Siarjorie. Butler, and Noenone Morgan. The best waltzer in the junior division was Miss Kathleen Clayton, in the other Miss Ina Gill. Among the pupils at Wellington Girls' College,' the best dancer was Miss -Dorothy Jordan, and the-best waltzer,. Miss Mariorie Jordan. Among the pupils .at Miss S. Somerville's school, the prizewinners in the senior and junior divisions were Masters Head-and Duncan, and Brandon- and Hall. A - special ' prize presented by Mr. "Hudson went to Miss Dulcie Millington, arid Mrs. Hislop's prize to Miss Moya Biss. .- ■ Miss M'Lean,' Inspector of the Hospitals Department, arrived back from Christchurch yesterday]- .and goes to I'almerston to-night. 'Mrs. .Broad,, who has been staying , ; witli' her daughter,, Mrs. Waddy, at Blenheim, re-, turned to Wellington last week. Miss Wood left, for "Napier on Saturday, after spending some weeks in towil with Mrs. Ernest Hadfield. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kennedy are on-their way to Rotorua, arid Miss White, of Christchurch, is at present the guest of Miss Agues Kennedy. , , . The Musical Committee of the Lady -Plunke't Centre of the Girls'. Realm Guild employs itself visiting various charitable institutions, 'and . there- giving delightful little concerts. Yesterday it went out to St. Mary s Home at Karori, arid gave'there a concert, which was much appreciated by the inmates. The members who. accompanied were . Miss jSileen Ward, the deader of the committee, the Misses Beauchamp (2), Miss H., Miles, the Misses Putnam (2), Miss Dean, and Miss Esme Ward. ' Mrs. D'Arcy Chaytor is staying with lior mother, Mrs. Edwin. .......
i Mrs. Eliot Warburton, who'has been staying in Wellirigton for some days, on her way back from the golf tournament at Diinedin, is going back to Palmerston to-day.
A .very- enjoyable little, afternoon- tea was given on Monday afternoon by Miss Bauchop, at her rooms oil the' Terrace, for Miss Jenny Pollock, of the Blartd.Holt Company. Spring flowers,. artistically ' arranged, - were everywhere to be seen, the cherry blossoms being particularly lovely,. .Mi§s. Bauchop wore a graceful blue and.white silk frock, th'p bodice being trimmed with .deep cream coloured lace. Miss'.Pollock's charming Empire.frock was of reseda green,-awl with it she wore a white h,-it trimmed with pink, blue, .and green roses. ilr. Robert Pollock accompanied-His sister.
