MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.
(BI TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL COBRESPONDENT.) Auckland, October 16. The Hon. Goo. Fowlds, speaking to a press representative yesterday on the subject of tho Main Trunk railway, oxpressed tho opinion that there ought to bo somo ceremony in connection witli the opening of such an important work. No definite arrangomonts had yet been made, as it was rather difficult so far to name an exact date for tho opening. It seems to bo tho feeling that tho lino should be well consolidated before starting tho daily through service, but in the ifoxt week or two it was expected that tho trains would bo running through in two days. Tho official opening would probably tako placo when tho daily servico was inaugurated. Mr. Fowlds thought that probably the idea would ho to have tho two trains meet midway between Auckland and Wellington, though there was no very suitablo placo for a big gathering.
