DINGHY SAILING.

—9 ; OPENING OF THE SEASON. The Dinghy Sailing Club opened tho racing season on Saturday afternoon, when a race was sailed for Mr. M. Laing's trophy. This was the first event raced from tho club's new quarters, the To Aro Boat Harbour, and tho course was from a lino at the entrance to the ' Boat Harbour down to a dinghy moored off tho southern end of Oriental Bay, thence to tho southernmost hulk buoy and back to the starting lino. Seven dinghies went round the course in the perfect northerly sailing breeze. The starters and handicaps wero: Messrs. Mooro Bros.' Zel, scr.; Mr. E. Bailey's Thclma,' scr.; Mr. Nathan's Vera, -Jmin.; Mr. John S. Swan's Blowfly, Ijmin.; Messrs. Jones and Sergeant's Oeo, 2min.; Messrs. Scott and Co.'s Rona, Bimin.; and Messrs. Moore Bros.' Ajax, SJmin. Tho boats wero spread out until making, tho hulk buoy, when several of them came together, four rounding this mark at about the same time. The run home saw the same four neck and neck practically tho whole way, and an exciting finish ended in Ajax heating Thelma for first place by 10 seconds. Blowfly and Oeo were a few seconds behind, finishing in tho order named, tho Rona was fifth, Vera sixth, and Zel soventh.
