FEILDING NOTES.

During tho illness of the county clerk tho clerical work of tho Kiwitea County Council has been carried on by Mr. Bonernc, the county engineer, and on Saturday it was decided'to increaso his salary by £50, making it £300 a year.
Tho Kiwitea telcphono exchange opened yesterday with six subscribers. It is one of the first exchanges in tho Dominion equipped with tho metallic circuit, ono of-tho latest improvements in telephonic communication. Tho elections of members of county councils throughout tho Dominion take, place in November next. It is not very likely that. Mr. Carman (chairman of Kiwitea County Council) will seek re-eleetion, owing to continued poor health, while it is stated that Mr. D. 11. Guthrie, is not anxious for a further torm of office. Mr. E. H. Crabb, of Kimbolton, is stated to bo ono of tho new aspirants to a seat on tho Kiwitea County Council.
On Saturday a parado of tlio Feilding Mounted Rjfles was held, when Major Tatum, Captain-Adjutant Pringlo, and SergcantMajor Dovoy woro present. After parado the men woro addressed by Captain-Adjutant Pringlo and Lieutenant .Dick v Lieutenant Perry, who had sent in his resignation, withdrew it at the request of Captain Pringlo, and Sergeant-Major Hanby, who resigned soma time ago, has joined tho corps again with tlio rank of sergeant. Sergeant Rnnby led the' Feilding four that won so many events at A. and P. shows and military sports.
There were four presentations on Saturday. Two of them took place in Mr. John Cobbe's establishment, tho first being to Miss Holder, of tho tailoring department, on tho occason of her approaching marriage. At tho parado of the Foilding Mounted Rifles on Saturday afternoon, Major Tatum presented Captaiii Soronson with a long scrvico medal, on the completion of 12 years' service. Mr. H. B. Strango, who oil Saturday severed his connection with Mr. John Cobbe's establishment, was presented with a handsome travelling rug, by tho other members of tlio staff. Tlio members of tlio Feilding 111 Football Club made a presentation to Sir. Frank Eyre, the club's coach.
