The list of disputes to be settled by ths Arbitration Court, which will begin its sit- ' tings in Auckland on October 8, has been '•'■ augmented .by several more. One hundred - and forty-five employers are cited as parties to. the Auckland carters' industrial dispute. Tile union demands a minimum weekly wago of £2 Bs. for those driving and attending one horse; two horses, £2 125.; and thrco horses, £2.165.; for more than three hor6es 4s. per week per horso is asked in addition; no deduction to be made for bad weather or holidays; casual labour to bo paid at Is. 3d, per hour, and overtime at the rate of Is. 6d. per hour for tlic first two hours, arid 2s. per hour after; casual carters to be paid Is; 3d. per hour for the time occupied in attendance on horses. The union asks for. a 47-hour week and'demands 11 holidays.. Similar demands are made by the Hamilton Carters' Union. BLOCK OF SHOPS BURNED. Timaru, September 21. About 1.30 o'clock on Sunday morning; a fire was discovered in one of. a row of small wooden shops at Fairlie. As there were no fire appliances four shops and a building used as a temporary post and telegraph office since the destruction of the railway station a few weeks ago were burned. - The block was owned by Mr.; H.
