Mr. George Hector It olios ton, formerly a magistrate in the Transvaal (a position which. !>p vacated under the Transvaal retrenchment' scliemcs),' ha 3 been appointed by the Board of Trade to act as Trade Commissioner in Now Zealand. The Board of Trade recently appointed Trado Commissioners in Canada (Mr. R. Grigg) and in Australia (Mr. C. Hamilton Wicko). .This is in pursuance of the policy of Imperial Wade representation, of which so much was spoken ahout a year ago.' Mr. Dcakin, whon tho Australian appointment was made, pointed out that Mr. Lloyd-Georgo. had encouraged tho policy when he was at the Board of Trado. "He advocated (said Mr. Deakin) sending Trad§ Commissioners/ to different countries. W- pointed out, that they were necessary in the dominions—a fact Mr. Lloyd-George had already appreciated—and as a consequence this is an appointment of a Commissioner. who apparently will not be a visitor, but a resident in tho Commonwealth."
