Day, S.M., pointed out that an absurdity existed-in tho Vaccination Act, 110 stated that whero a parent was charged with failing to vaccinate a child, and appeared to answer tho charge, tlio law allowed a Magistrate to malso an order that tho operation should be carried out within a specified timo; but if a paront did not appear the Magistrate had no alternative but to fino tlio fnther or mother of tho child. "Itis an absurd position," ho added, "but hero.is tho statute, and you cannot got away from it." 1 Mr. L. C. Williams, who instituted tho proceedings, pointed out that tho Magistrato could lino tho parents up to 405., and to his mind they would soon got tired of that. Mr, Day agreed, that they could bo brought up ovory week' if neoossary, but if they were willing to pay 40s. ovory time thoy wcro charged they would bo ablo to set tho law at defianco. Addressing Mr. Williams, Mr. Day said that as Parliament was now sitting he (Mr. Williams) should mako representations with a - viow to getting tho Act amended.
